Diana Gribble dies

Diana Gribble, one of the owners and publishers of Crikey has died after a short illness, the site has announced.

Crikey writes:

“Di Gribble was an extraordinary figure in Australian publishing, culture and media. She was co-founder of the iconic book publisher McPhee Gribble in 1975, co-founder of the Text Media Group in 1990, co-founder of Private Media (owner of Crikey, SmartCompany, The Power Index, StartUp Smart and Property Observer) in 2003, a former deputy chair of the ABC, and a former director of Lonely Planet, Care Australia, the Australia Council, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne Major Events Company and Circus Oz.”

Tim Burrowes is the publisher of Mumbrella and Unmade. He co-founded Mumbrella in 2008 and sister title Unmade in 2021. Very sad, she was always very cool. We worked on the same floor, although not the same business, and was always good to have a chat with – always had a calm and determined air. She’s one of those people you always thought would just ‘be there’. Will miss her. R.I.P Di.
