David Droga: Bring on ad blockers
Dave Droga said today that technology that blocks ads is a good thing for the industry, as it cuts out poor advertising and forces creatives to produce better work.
The founder of ad hot shop Droga5 and one of the most awarded creatives in the history of Cannes, likened ad blockers to restraining orders for criminals, and said that the need for the technology showed that consumers regard advertising as invasive.
“Bring on ad blockers,” he said.
More clapping from me.
Damn right! Advertising is soiling the media that sustains it.
There was a time when ads were respectful of the “content” that surrounded it. But the foolishness in running ordinary TV-devised ads in places like YouTube is beyond belief.
I swear that most of the “clicks” on on-line and on-device ads are the result of fingers slipping and accidental mouse movements.
Who can deny the failure of the ad “industry” to devise anything more interesting for these revolutionary media than the current set of rubbish communications that simply clutter and annoy the lives of the very people we should be seducing.
The lunatics have indeed taken over the asylum.
