Entries open for 2011 ASTRA Awards

The Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association (ASTRA) has today opened entries for its 9th annual awards with the inclusion of new categories.  

The announcement:

March 28, 2011 –

The ASTRA Awards, which recognise excellence in the Australian subscription television industry (STV), will be accepting entries for the 9th annual event from Monday 28th March. The 2011 program will see extended opportunities for reality programs with the addition of a new award. This year will also see increased consumer interaction with the ASTRA Awards through the expansion of the Subscribers’ Choice categories from two to five.

The 9th Annual ASTRA Awards are divided into four main categories.

CHANNEL

1. Channel of the Year

SUBSCRIBERS’ CHOICE

2. Favourite Program – Australian

3. Favourite Program – International

4. Favourite Personality – Male

5. Favourite Personality – Female

6. Favourite Personality – Youth

The increase in Subscribers’ Choice categories is linked to consumer interest and a desire to engage subscription television viewers in selecting the stars and shows they love to watch. The Favourite Program award has expanded to include Favourite Program – Australian and Favourite Program – International, allowing viewers to recognise their favorite shows from overseas which appear on STV as well as local productions. The Favourite Personality category now includes awards for both male and female personality while this year also sees the introduction of the new award for Favourite Personality Youth.

7. Most Outstanding Children’s Program or Event

8. Most Outstanding Music Program or Coverage

9. Most Outstanding Sports Program or Coverage

10. Most Outstanding Documentary

11. Most Outstanding News Program or Coverage

12. Most Outstanding Reality Program

13. Most Outstanding Lifestyle Program

14. Most Outstanding Light Entertainment Program

15. Most Outstanding Drama

16. Most Outstanding Use of Innovation in Programming

In the Programming & Production category, a new award has been introduced for the Most Outstanding Reality Program.

TALENT

17. Most Outstanding Performance by an Actor – Male

18. Most Outstanding Performance by an Actor – Female

19. Most Outstanding Performance by a Presenter

20. Most Outstanding Performance by a Broadcast Journalist

21. Best New Talent
