Executive producers of The Tunnel launch independent online film platform
The executive producers of the film The Tunnel have announced they will launch an online film platform for independent filmmakers.
DLSHS, the digital agency who helped create the innovative marketing and distribution campaign of The Tunnel, will launch eCut in 2012.
Ahmed Salama, co-creator of eCut with Valeria Petrenko, told Encore: “Ecut is many things – firstly, it is an independent film distribution platform. What we’re trying to do is give the power to the filmmakers and get their films out there the right way. I think there’s a whole generation of filmmakers evolving who don’t have the right tools to get their films out there.”
There will be three possible monetisation methods. Firstly, a filmmaker can set a price they like as pay-per-view.
This is a wonderful project and I really hope it succeeds. Internet start-ups can easily fail, so ecut will need to build a strong and supportive community quickly, hopefully by screening top quality content.
Excited to see where this ends up, if it takes off could become the netflix for independent cinema. Great stuff!
yep great idea I’ll do everything I can to support it
well done guys. Looking forward to it.
Anything that supports independent (non-government, non-studio) filmmaking has to be a good thing.
It’s good, they should be congratulated BUT it is still the old model. Producers need to move from making money out of distribution as the sole source of revenue to making money out of subscription. Usurp the means of distribution and upset the revenue model. We need to sort it before the distributors do.
