Facebook founder Zuckerberg awarded Cannes Lions media person of the year

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder and CEO, has been named Media Person of the Year at the 57th Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.  

The social networking site was founded by the 25 year old in 2004 while studying computer science at Harvard University. Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, Facebook has over 400 million active users.

As chief executive, Zuckerberg is responsible for setting the overall direction and product strategy for the company.

Philip Thomas, Cannes Lions CEO, said: “Cannes Lions Media Person of the Year is awarded to those who have changed the face of media and communications, usually after a lifetime of achievement.
