Fairfax Media named as local partner for Huffington Post
The Huffington Post has named Fairfax Media as its partner for its Australian launch in the second quarter of the year.
Fairfax has been chosen above several other local players as the launch partner for the news site, a move which has been delayed several times since it was first mooted in 2011.
The exact details of the new tie-up are unclear at this point, but it is thought Fairfax will provide back end and sales support for the site, similar to Mi9’s arrangement with the Daily Mail.
The US site, founded by Arianna Huffington, had been slated to launch in the first quarter of the year, but a media release this morning confirmed it was looking to set up shop with an independent team of editors and journalists in the second quarter of the year in Sydney.
I hope there’s a geo-setting option to filter out Australian content.
I love reading the modern Greek tragedy/comedy that is US politics from this leftist propaganda source.
These content providers need to remember that the reason sites like Buzzfeed, Huff Post and Daily Mail had such a large Australian audience, is because those people DIDN’T want to read Australian content. If I wanted to read about Australian issues I’d read the Age, News.com.au or god forbid Slimemsn.
The last thing I want to see when I read a foreign site is some hipster journalism student selling his soul for latte money by trying to emulate the american style of a fast food content outlet.
@Hank.
Not only Yanks drive Fords and you can buy them in Australia too. Whilst cars are being ‘unwound’ from the fabric of Australian manufacturing, new media, like other sectors of industry, are spreading to Australia.
I love the Aussie content in The Guardian. I also love a good French wine, whilst I browse the weekend retreats on my latest Apple gadget.
I can easily browse UK contact, or US content on The Guardian. Or I can browse local. I have choice. More choice than ever before.
Right, I had better be off. I need to sign a petition on SumOfUs. (Another one against Monsanto… tsk tsk…)
