Fairfax sites to host catchup episodes of MasterChef
Fairfax Media websites are to start hosting catch up episodes of MasterChef in a deal announced by Ten this morning.
The episodes will go up immediately after airing on Ten. The sites include smh.com.au and theage.com.au.
Network Ten’s chief operating officer Jon Marquard, said: “Viewers want the ability to use catch-up across a range of platforms. This relationship will allow viewers to use the Fairfax websites as well as our MasterChef Australia website to ensure they don’t miss an episode and can keep up to date with the show.”
The deal comes days after The Australian reported that Ten was seeking online allegiances with the likes of Google and Telstra.
Finally, an interesting move in the pretty ho-hum approach Australian broadcasters have to online video content. Next stop, a service like Hulu that houses the series of more than one network, and episodes go live online AS they are broadcast, if not sooner.
Smart move by Ten and Fairfax. Hulu does own trademarks and hulu.com.au locally but still no international/Australian streaming rights for their vast content (other than Hulu Japan).
Will they automatically play? (Sorry, couldn’t help it.)
