Fairfax’s editorial director Sean Aylmer resigns
Fairfax Media’s most senior editorial executive Sean Aylmer has resigned from the company after 20 years.
Aylmer, who has been part of a series of redundancy rounds at the publishing giant over the last 18 months, left Fairfax Media on Tuesday afternoon.
Sean had the worst of it, fronting up for the decisions made by Hywood. No surprise he’s going as he’s a decent human and will have good options. Others at his level have either gone or are going soon. There’s not a lot for anyone with self respect to stay for.
A lovely guy. Worst job in history. He will be much better for leaving.
“Rip it up and start again” – the description given to the company’s new commercial strategy. Could also be applied to the approach they’re taking with their people. Out with the old, in with the new. We’ll see soon enough (next round of results reporting) whether the new guard are , with their new strategies around people, product and commercial – are making a better fist of things than the old.
