Family Feud’s return confirms the state of game shows in Australia
In this cross-posting from The Conversation Matthew Wade argues the return of Family Feud shows Australia’s TV networks are not interested in testing their audiences intellectually.
Family Feud returns to our television screens tonight as part of Ten’s desperate scramble to remain a viable entity, and is scheduled to compete with Seven and Nine’s main news bulletins at 6pm.
Are networks dumbing down entertainment for the masses or are they just producing shows which the dumb masses love?
I stopped watching gameshows when Sale of the Century disappeared. Now there was a show!
How old do you have to be in order to go on family feud?
Why watch a game show on TV, when you can watch all the best bits from the inception of game shows?
Far out, I was glued to game show bloopers last night on YT, which took me on a journey to news readers fluffing their lines and then onto some customary Russian road rage clips. I think I ended with some cute puppies as the Mrs wants us to buy a dog, so I made her say “Oh looooooook!”, as around 15 Labradors went swimming for the first time.
Are game shows dead or is traditional commercial television dying?
the ratings have made this story awkward…
I see you’ve admitted you’re a grump… but seriously… lighten up
You’d be a hoot at parties!
There’s a place in the world and on TV for all sorts of shows. Everything doesn’t have to be Balderdash mate… sometimes we can play pin the tail on the donkey too.
“Yeah, i’d love to watch university challenge to unwind at 6pm with my kids after a hard day at work”.. Is what people said to me when I researched this concept.
no. nooooooooooooooo. nuh-ooooooooooooooooo. really? tv, sorry, commercial tv IS all about the lowest common denominator, always has been, and with the level of intellect of the australian public, well, it’s hardly surprising is it. commercial tv is unwatchable to anyone with an average iq and now the government is trying to gut the abc and sbs.
