Federal government announces companies and universities receiving young journalist subsidies

Media outlets Southern Cross Austereo, NBN and Grant Broadcasters are among 41 regional companies to receive funding for journalism cadetships, the Federal government has announced today.

The grants, part of the government’s $60m Regional and Small Publishers Jobs and Innovation Package comes as publishers wait for news on their applications for the first tranche of the long-delayed innovation fund.


Under the training component of the package, the Government has committed to support up to 200 journalism cadetships over two years in regional and remote areas with a matching wage subsidy of up to $40,000 for each journalism cadet.
