Screen Australia issued a report on Thursday that showed total drama production spend in Australia rose by 43% over the past year, to reach $2.7 billion. However, Screen Producers Australia (SPA) warned that international activity drove the growth, and fewer Australian titles were being produced.
Screen Australia’s Drama Report 2024/25 showed that, of the $2.7 billion spent on drama productions in Australia over the 2024-25 financial year, international TV and video-on-demand combined with international features accounted for $1.6 billion, or around 60%.
Australian titles entering production fell by 20%, from 89 to 71, while investment in Australian stories on TV and video-on-demand platforms fell to $688m from $717m the prior financial year.
