Former WPP AUNZ CEO Mike Connaghan joins News Corp to head up commercial content
The man who was at the helm of Australia’s largest advertising and media agency holding group for 12 years has resurfaced in a new role at News Corp.
Mike Connaghan departed WPP AUNZ in October 2018. From today, he will be managing director of commercial content at News Corp.
In an announcement titled ‘Industry heavyweight joins News Corp Aus’, the publishing giant said Connaghan “has chosen to join News Corp Australia to enhance the value of content for commercial clients and audiences”.
Does this mean Simon Smith is gone?
Hi Question,
I have asked this of News Corp, and will update you and the story when I have an answer.
Thanks,
Vivienne – Mumbrella
Hi,
News Corp has said there is “no change” to Simon’s role.
Thanks,
Vivienne – Mumbrella
Bravo! Many congratulations Mike.
Wow, that’s a good get for News. If Mike is now leading the Suddenly agency, what happens to Simon Smith (who has been heading it)?
Hi Liam,
I have asked the question, and will update you and the story when I have an answer.
Thanks,
Vivienne – Mumbrella
Hi,
News Corp has said there is “no change” to Simon’s role. I’ve contacted Simon as well.
Thanks,
Vivienne – Mumbrella
There is no way Connaghan is going to News to run some small content studio. The guy was on 7 figures at WPP, probably more in salary than Suddenly makes in revenue, let’s be serious here.
Two big salaries at Suddenly… there goes any profit it was making.
Great win for diversity at Holt St.
Hi Vivienne,
Any changes to the commercial technology executives?
