Foxtel 2012 to put Rove in Olympic hot seat but no word on local drama
Foxtel has unveiled the key elements of its programming schedule for 2012 with what appears to be a switch of emphasis away from local drama and towards the 2012 Olympics and US content in the coming year.
Rove McManus, who is already hosting chat show Rove LA for Foxtel will join the commentary team for the London Olympics, Foxtel announced.
There were no new local dramas announced at the event, in contrast to a year ago when Foxtel announced both Spirited and Slide. However, Foxtel’s director of television Brian Walsh said there would be a further announcement on drama early next year.
Among the big US shows will be the Steven Spielberg-developed Smash, featuring the case of a Broadway Show about Marilyn Monroe.
Rove = Fail. I would rather watch commercials than watch ratings flop. Foxtel should look at his ratings for Rove in LA.

Tim, the Rove haters are always around – tall poppy syndrome. I agree, Monday’s show was very funny and entertaining.
Geoff, there is an old maxim that ‘everyone’s a critic’.
So I did a search for your chat show to see how it compares to Rove’s. Oddly, it didn’t seem to come up in the ratings. At least Rove has put his money and reputation where his mouth is and has made several shows over his career (both on radio and TV) and posted his runs on the board.
P.S. Genius idea that Foxtel should look at his ratings for Rove LA. There are hundreds of people working at Foxtel and I’m flummoxed how none of them have apprently not thought of doing that until you mentioned it. Clown!

As he’s hosting a comedy/tonight show I’m not sure if Rove is particularily trying to be an interviewer is he? There’s plenty of good interviewers out there if you’re looking for insight into celebrity lives. I think he’s quite good.
How’s the ad watching going Geoff?
Its not that there’s anything excessively wrong with Rove (or Rafters either).. It’s just that they’re not exciting to watch. You wouldn’t be Brian Walsh for quids. If he doesn’t send McManus to the Olympics who does he have? Television is choc full of on camera presenters with bad diction, boring voices, nodding heads, big teeth and too much lip gloss. Foxtel has a stable of them. Check out Megan Gayle and Sarah Murdoch. They look awesome but when they open their mouths they sound like the barmaids in Summer of the Seventeenth Doll.
