Federal Court backs blocking of piracy websites

Subscription TV provider Foxtel has welcomed a decision made by the Federal Court to permit the blocking of five of the most prominent online piracy websites.

Australia’s largest ISP’s will block pirate sites including The Pirate Bay, Torrentz, Torrent Hound, IsoHunt and SolarMovie in the step to combat piracy.

Using the legislation passed by The Senate last year, the Copyright Act will now see copyright owners and exclusive licencees have the ability to seek authoritative measures against ISP’s.
