Foxtel launches streaming video on demand service, Foxflicks
Foxtel has launched a streaming video on demand service, Foxflicks, offering on demand titles to existing subscribers on its Movies and Platinum HD plans with iQ3 and iQ4 boxes.
The new service comes as the subscription TV operator finds itself under threat from streaming competitors Netflix and Stan while suffering declining user revenues ahead of its planned IPO later this year.
Foxflicks will offer the same content that is available to Foxtel Now movie subscribers however they won’t have the Foxflicks’ “experience’, a company spokesperson told Mumbrella.
I am a Platinum HD subscriber with an iQ4 box. In addition to the HD movie channels, I already have access to a catalogue of free movies on demand through the IP-connected box, as well as on-demand new release movies which can be rented in HD or SD.
So this service already exists. I assume this just means they will be adding new movies?
Tell me how this is different in format to the original Presto (i.e. standalone movie offering)? Why they’d offer it only to their small pool of box-system subscribers?
Competition hey!? …
Sounds like this is the current On Demand Movies section with a new (and slightly unoriginal) name?
A renaming of an existing product available to customers to already have it.
Does not matter what they call it, Netflix is better value hands down.
LOL Foxtel.
Fox Flicks is part of our “secret” project Martian, rebrand Foxtel to Fox, test the waters rebrand our website logo in October, just in time for our nice $3 price hike, geez there goes one of my coffees!
Foxtel still doesn’t get why they are losing customers. They’re asking subscribers of the movie pack to still pay for new release rental from their store. Ludicrous
Currently I cannot use Chromecast with my Foxtel subscription….unless I buy Go…will this change?
Another new, half baked Foxtel product that probably won’t be around in 12 months. I swear their strategy is just to confuse their customers into handing over more money. Once we cotton on, they’ll change their offering again.
I was excited, but quickly realized it won’t be like Netflix at all, pretty lame.if it was say $15 a month for Fox sports and was able to use an app like Netflix/Stan/Amazon they might get new customers but is not going to take off.
why not for everyone
I just got a letter from Foxtel saying they are increasing my subscription by $2 a month . I have IQ2 they don;t care about the old customers that have been with them for about 20 years . The services provided for us is zero . They want you to get IQ3 or IQ4 and pay for satellite installation and extra for the new box . If you are a new customer you get installation for free . So much for loyalty .
