Foxtel to launch catch-up TV service as ABC boss laments inability of free networks to work together on Aussie Hulu
The subscription TV industry looks set to beat the free to air networks to launching a multi channel catch-up TV service, with a new offering to become available next year.
The revelation came from Anthony Fitzgerald, CEO of pay TV sales house MCN, just three days after ABC boss Mark Scott complained that free to air networks had been unable to work together.
The best known catch-up TV service is the four-year-old Hulu in the US, which offers on demand streaming video supported by advertising.

How can Foxtel be “the first” when ABC has had iView for what, a couple of years now? I admit Channel 7’s offering is pathetic, but iView is superb.
7, 9 & 10: see, hear and speak no evil.
I love how the publicly funded Scott keeps giving advice to the commercial sector.
Can’t wait for the opportunity to catch up on the Simpsons and US/AUS/NZ Next Top Model.
How about investing in content?
It will be a long time before 7, 9 and 10 get together to make anything better or more streamlined. All they are interested in is destroying each other with their pathetic barbs and gutter jouranlism.
I support everything Anthony Fitzgerald does.
@ Wazza – Foxtel invest a fair sum in content, and more importantly local content.
@ David Hague – I think the reference to the ‘first’ is the ‘first multi-channel’ catch up TV service. Something Scott later indicates that the FTA’s are poor at coming together soon.
Congrats Foxtel, and more importantly MCN and Anthony for continuing the advancement of TV offering.
We’re aggregating catch-up tv from ABC, SBS, 7, 9, 10, and other channels into Flixspan Australia to be launched soon
hulu australia is here today (more or less)
