Geostorm knocks Blade Runner 2049 off top spot at weekend box office

American disaster film Geostorm topped the weekend box office with earnings of $1.539m despite abysmal reviews and performance over in the US.

Co-written, produced and directed by Dean Devlin, the film follows the story of a satellite designer who tries to save the world from a massive storm triggered by malfunctioning climate-controlled satellites.

It stars Gerard Butler, Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish and Alexandra Maria Lara.
