Gerard Henderson for Media Watch host? The odds narrow
It’s the question many in the media elite are asking: who will replace Jonathan Holmes as the host of the ABC’s Media Watch program?
Last year Holmes indicated that he would be finishing up mid year and Crikey has recently reported that a new replacement would be announced next month.
Amid the rumour and speculation about a replacement Dr Mumbo salutes the diligence of betting brand Sportsbet for creating a market on who would be the next host.
And the Sydney Institute’s Gerard Henderson, star of the somewhat ABC-sceptical website Media Watch Dog, comes in fourth paying $8 (presumably there are rules preventing the inclusion of Nancy his dog).
Former Media Watch hosts Paul Barry and Liz Jackson are among the favourites at $3 and $6 respectively. While Dr Mumbo thinks he would quite enjoy a Media Watch hosted by John Safran…
Dr Mumbo thinks readers should also spare a thought for some of the more conservative contenders for the role. Sportsbet puts Janet Albrechtsen and Andrew Bolt at $9 and $10 each (a little generous maybe?).
While The Australian’s Chris Kenny is way out at $26.00 and regular Media Watch contributor (technically true) Alan Jones is paying $51.00.

I vote for Tim Burrows… whats the odds on that?
Gerard Henderson is actually at 7/1, not 8/1, as you get your one dollar stake back in odds better.
For example, Paul Barry is $4, or 3/1.
And far from being generous, Andrew Bolt is far too short at $10 (9/1) – he should at $1,001 (1,000/1) – he is on a rival channel and has no interest in the job.
Thanks for clarifying Patrick. We’ve adjusted the piece.
As half the show is spent slagging off Alan Jones’ radio programme I doubt he’d be in the running…
Patrick while I agree with your sentiment that Bolt will not be the host he has in the past said that he would like to be, or more correctly that he should be, the host. You can watch the Media Watch 20 years special to hear him say that.
Rupert Murdoch. Why bother with middlemen?
I just went over and read Gerard Henderson’s Media Watch Dog
Basically if you are not a right wing nut, then Mr Hendeson seems to believe you are biased.
sad..
Andrew Denton for Media Watch
You’re the sad one, Betty. Sadly predictable and without an original thought in your head.
Hey Robbo, are you Andrew Bolt in disguise? The strength of your arguments have me fooled.
Paul Barry.
Holmes confirmed it on last night’s episode.
Why was next year’s Gold Logie winner Tom Waterhouse left off this list?
