Golden Globes 2010: Year of Avatar
The show is over, and although Avatar took home the Best Film and Best Director awards, you couldn’t really say that there were any big winners dominating the 2010 Golden Globes.
The Australian presence was not as strong as in previous years, but at least Toni Collette got one for United States of Tara, to go next to her Emmy for the same role.
Sci-fi adventure Avatar is simply unstoppable. It hasn’t even been out for a month yet, but with more than U$1,600 million in box office takings and two Golden Globes, its Oscar hopes are more real than ever.
There will also be Oscar glory for Up in the Air (Paramount), Precious (Icon) and Crazy Heart (Fox), and perhaps not so much for The Hurt Locker (Roadshow) and Invictus (Roadshow) as previously expected.
Mo’Nique was SO AWESOME in that role. Just amazing! And the scene that clinches it for her is her final scene, when her character is in the office with her daughter and the social worker, and she finally admits what happened in her home.
That performance is the best out of the entire category of supporting actresses this year. I don’t think anyone can dispute that.
Simply an amazing performance!
Indeed. I am not familiar with her comedy work, but her performance was tremendously powerful… well, everybody in that film is incredible, even Mariah Carey!
