Golden Globes 2010: Year of Avatar

Toni Collette, Golden GlobesThe show is over, and although Avatar took home the Best Film and Best Director awards, you couldn’t really say that there were any big winners dominating the 2010 Golden Globes.

The Australian presence was not as strong as in previous years, but at least Toni Collette got one for United States of Tara, to go next to her Emmy for the same role.

Sci-fi adventure Avatar is simply unstoppable. It hasn’t even been out for a month yet, but with more than U$1,600 million in box office takings and two Golden Globes, its Oscar  hopes are more real than ever.

There will also be Oscar glory for Up in the Air (Paramount), Precious (Icon) and Crazy Heart (Fox), and perhaps not so much for The Hurt Locker (Roadshow) and Invictus (Roadshow) as previously expected.
