Good Talent Media launches free media training for not-for-profits

In 2021, Melbourne-based agency Good Talent Media will host a complimentary masterclass in driving critical policy change and funding for not-for-profits.

The announcement:

A Melbourne-based communications and lobbying agency is giving NFPs free advocacy and campaign advice to help drive critical policy change and funding.

Good Talent Media (GTM) – staffed by ex journalists who specialise in the NFP sector – is launching the ‘Campaigning and Lobbying’ Masterclass in January over concerns government will defund important services, and suggests NFPs need to line up funding and campaigns in 2021.

GTM says there are concerns in the disability sector, for example, that group services in metro and regional areas will close unless funding arrangements change.

‘In 2021, not-for-profits will be pushing hard for government funding and it’s going to be a crowded market,’ suggests GTM’s Director of PR and Lobbying, David Latham.

‘Everyone is going to have their hand out, and not just NFPs. It’s going to be business as well. It’s imperative if you’re campaigning next year that you do it as effectively as possible.’

The six-week course will focus on establishing policy goals, securing campaign funding, finding campaign ambassadors and allies, creating media collateral, launching the campaign, and lobbying politicians.

It comes as a successor to GTM’s 2020 Media Masterclass, offered to organisations during COVID; offering them free advice on crisis media, PR, and media training.

Staffed by experienced journalists, media professionals and lobbyists, who have worked at the ABC, SBS, BBC, Fairfax, The Guardian, and 10 amongst other outlets, GTM says it knows there is a COVID funding cliff coming and that the time to prepare is now.

Founder of GTM, Tony Nicholls, says ‘we pinpointed the not-for-profit sector as one in most need of assistance as we come out of the mess that has been 2020.

‘Recognising that there will be a lot of political action in the year ahead, we want to give those who have our country’s best interests at heart a fighting chance and insider tips.

‘The course is completely free because we want to see the sector succeed. We’re very excited to announce the launch date, and hope this will be another at-capacity event.’
