Google Australia boss warns ACCC’s algorithm proposals risk ‘poor outcomes’
The ACCC’s proposal for greater scrutiny of the algorithms governing digital platforms risks ‘poor outcomes’, Google Australia’s boss Mel Silva has warned.
In a blog post this morning, Silva laid out the search engine giant’s response to the ACCC’s draft recommendations put forward Digital Platforms inquiry’s interim report released last December.
I can’t believe the ACCC doesn’t accept Google and the others own internal governance practices as sufficient. Clearly, they are bullies.
And I’m equally frustrated at the ACCC’s targeted campaign to undermine the self regulation of privacy practices by Google. One rule for all media! So unfair.
And great that the Aust head can come out and make the statement to add credibility unlike those other industries that fight unfair consumer judgement so they use organisations like the AMA or QSR associations as mouth pieces. Much more believable. Hmm.
Thanks, Google PR department, for taking the time to comment here.
Oh my, my sarcasm was far too cryptic. I get accused of that often. Self regulation by the behemoths never serves the public (as we see in other facets of life recently). And perhaps industry speaking behind puppet industry bodies avoids the lack of credibility when the vested interest speaks on behalf of.
