Google unveils new publishing tools in olive branch to publishers
Fairfax Media has been named a launch partner in Subscribe with Google, one of the key planks in the Google News Initiative launched overnight.
In the search giant’s latest attempt to support publishers and journalism, the GNI will see Google, which earned $US110bn in revenues last year, invest $US300m in media projects over the next three years along with projects to “promote journalism in a digital age.”

“Of course we’re totally on journalism’s side, yes sir, always have been, not like those Facebook guys. They just want to keep stealing your news. Heeey, I like your shoes.”
Nice, this might suit the owners of the newspapers but this isn’t what consumers want.
$11 a month for NYT, $? for SMH, etc….
You also have to pay for the media’s politics.
How about a one off subscription that gives you access to a whole range of media providers letting you choose what you read like Google News.
If not you can continue fighting the readers and pushing a style of business that is no longer relevant.
