Google’s Eric Schmidt named Cannes Lions media person of the year

Google chairman Eric Schmidt will be named the Cannes Lions media person of the year next month.

The announcement:  

19 May 2011 – The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is the world’s largest celebration of creativity in communications and the most prestigious international annual advertising and communications awards. Each year, the Festival presents The Media Person of the Year Award to a prominent personality who is an influential figure in the development of today’s media landscape, ultimately playing an integral part in shaping the future of the creative communications industry.

This year, The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is proud to honour Eric Schmidt, Google’s Executive Chairman, who since joining Google in 2001, has helped grow the company from a Silicon Valley start-up to a global leader in technology.
