Google’s Pixel 6 calls itself the most inclusive camera in latest ad
Google has released its latest campaign via 72 and Sunny to promote the latest Pixel smartphones, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
The campaign has global work by Weiden+Kennedy, New York as well as a locally-made Australian work of two feature films. One of the local spots promotes the Pixel’s ability to photograph darker skin tones.

“there has been a racial basis in how cameras capture darker skin tones”…. so the physics of light has been racist all these years!
Hi Oh Dear,
If you want to learn more about racial bias in photography, I would really recommend this article by Vox Media, which you can find here: https://www.vox.com/2015/9/18/9348821/photography-race-bias
Tl;dr is that film photography was not developed with darker skin tones in mind, and you can’t accommodate for something that your mind doesn’t turn to. Issues with film photography have, unfortunately, carried over to the digital age as well.
Thanks,
Anna
