Government and industry go head to head on carbon tax
The government has unleashed the next wave of its campaign to push the carbon tax on the same day as an industry alliance launches an assault to rubbish the policy.
The government’s ads, created by Melbourne-based agency Smart, push the ‘Clean Energy Future’ message through interviews with workers at green energy companies. They make the case that alternative energy sources will bring economic benefits and more jobs for Australia as well as curb climate change.

Seems like renewable energy projects are already underway without a Carbon Tax. How can that be i wonder?
All the ATIA ad tells me is that Europe has TOTALLY cocked up their carbon tax. In an area with a population of around 800 million they raised $4.9b in six and a half years? Put another way that less than $1 a year per capita. Frankly, why would you bother?
And how much profit did just TWO of the miners make last year (BHP and Rio Tinto)? $33.6 billion. So over six and a half years that’s a linear projection of $218 billion for just those two. That is, the two biggest miners profit is likely to be TREBLE treble the total tax receipts across the Top 500 emitters across that time.
Folks, wake up. They are trying to dazzle with big numbers to scare people. And based on their ad $1 per person per annum is a big number. In my book, $33.6b profit from two high emissions companies is a big number.
Let’s get serious and tax the big emitters – that’s the only way to reverse the trend of unsustainable emissions.

Of course renewable energy projects are already underway without a carbon tax.
But WITH carbon pricing, there will be both market incentives and direct Govt assistance, for there to be MORE renewable energy projects in this country.
It’s pretty straightforward really.
This’ll be interesting though. The last time the Mining Council did this, they succeeded in convincing the average struggling Joe and Joanne that the mining tax would be bad for them… that somehow taking a small percentage off mining billionaires and spreading the wealth to other sectors (where the vast majority of us live and work) would somehow work against them.
The day we saw Twiggy Forrest and Gina Rinehart (personally worth over $10 billion) crying poor, hold placards like people who’d just been turfed out of a minimum wage job… and people actually buying that act, kind of made me lose faith in people’s ability to critically think about issues.
So anything’s possible. You never know, people may actually watch this and be convinced that carbon pricing will spell the end for the Australian mining industry.

Green / Labour communism – Great we can all earn the same wage and burn wood and wear snuggles. Market based mechanisms are always best, not taxing the populous… let’s get the government out of our pocket and start innovating – why does have to become a quarry, that imports everything – smart and successful countries make things The big polluters actually are mostly government owned electricity generators. Come on we have 34 coal power stations – China has 4730 coal fired powers stations, and their powered by coal we export.
Besides The wind generators in the press ads are not even spinning.
