Government to trial tool to speed up classification process of Netflix content

The Turnbull Government has announced the pilot of a new classification tool that will streamline the process of classifying Netflix content, making programs available more quickly to Australian audiences.

netflix-logoThe government has been working with the streaming giant over the past year to create the tool which combines Netflix’s technology with Australia’s classification ratings and consumer advisories.

According to a media release from the office of Senator Mitch Fifield, the solution: “represents the first time in the world that a self-regulator tool will be used to classify films and television series”.

The pilot, which will be undertaken over the next 12 months, will see Netflix applying the classification tool to classify its content for Australian audiences.
