Grundy honoured by AFI
Neighbours creator Reg Grundy is the recipient of this years AFI Raymond Longford Award, the Australian Film Institutes’s highest honour.
“Over the years I took Australians out into the world: actors, producers, performers, directors, technicians and writers and together we proved that Australians were up there with the best there is. This has been one of my great joys and they are all people with whom I am proud to have been associated,” said Grundy.
“I am indeed honoured to receive the Raymond Longford Award from the Australian Film Industry. Television production has been my chosen field and my passion for the major part of my life and I have been fortunate enough to have had success in all forms of it, in my own country and overseas,” he added.
Grundy was the producer of shows such as Wheel of Fortune, Sale of the Century, Perfect Match, The Restless Years, The Young Doctors, Prisoner and Sons and Daughters.
AFI CEO Damian Trewhella defined Grundy as “a true pioneer of television” that brought Australian stories to a global audience, adding that “we won’t have a full understanding of the immense cultural of this for some time”.
Grundy will be presented with the accolade at the Awards ceremony on December 11 in Melbourne.
Well now I’ve heard everything! “A true pioneer of television” – I’ve never heard him called that before.
The phrase ‘scraping the bottom of the barrel’ comes to mind.
BTW – it was Reg Watson who created Neighbours if I remember correctly that far back.
As the man had said – he took Aussies into the world to produce shows around the world…..All Aussies should be proud of him!!!!
