Happy Soldiers founders John Kane and Ben Sampson launch Idea Gallery
Two of the founding team behind the now defunct creative agency Happy Soldiers have launched a new ideas-sourcing company.
John Kane and Ben Sampson, two of the brains behind the highly awarded Tontine date stamp campaign, are the founders of Idea Gallery – a platform where “Creative people everywhere have a place to submit their best ideas.”
The best ideas are chosen by Kane and Sampson, and presented to brand owners by invitation at galleries in Sydney, New York, Tokyo, London and Stockholm.
In an interview with Mumbrella, Kane said: “Tontine (date stamp) wasn’t the best idea we had. There were five or six ideas we thought were better. I’m sure creatives around the world face a similar situation – they have had better ideas that could get made.”
On the closure of Happy Soldiers, Kane said: “Ultimately what was seen from the outside as a very creative agency, didn’t work as a business.”
Another top idea from these two
Noramlly it would be easy to dismiss this sort of thing as a bit of a w%*k. But I think they’re on to something here and if handled right could be a huge global success. Good luck lads.
Agree, well done, fellas.
These guys have the brains and drive to pull this off. Another great ‘idea’ from the dynamic duo. Best of luck with it (but hey, who needs luck when you’ve got this much talent)
Haha. This could ruffle some feathers.
Cool idea, but claiming “the most renowned creative start-up of the last decade”? Thats a mighty big over-claim. Not to sidetrack things, but that’s pretty offensive to a number of vastly more successful independents (maybe they didn’t win as big with one campaign/strategic idea, but success by every other measure). Crikey.
Here’s 2 guys behind a failed agency admitting that their most well known and successful idea wasn’t the best idea which leads me to think why would they be the best 2 individuals to judge these ideas or why would someone with the idea need them?
Sounds like this is a cheap front to commoditise peoples ideas from a couple of guys with contacts.
Why do you have to be a hater? How bout we all just admit this is a good idea and wish them well with it.
Fantastic idea.
Worked for Steve Jobs
“So when a good idea comes, you know, part of my job is to move it around, just see what different people think, get people talking about it, argue with people about it, get ideas moving among that group of 100 people, get different people together to explore different aspects of it quietly, and, you know – just explore things.”
Good onya
Cool idea, smart guys but I don’t think it’ll work. Best of luck though and I hope you prove me wrong.
With thr world economy the way it is, I have nothing but admiration for these two young men taking the chance with a good idea. As a retired Ad Man, I have met people during my career who had new and interesting ideas. Some worked, others did not. But at least they had the B…..S to try something different. Still a great idea and I am sure it will work. Lets face it, with an Irish man and an Aussie running things, it cannot fail.
I like the stark fresh of the website.
People will be queuing up to get these two experts run over their ideas. Look out engineers, research and funding groups.
