Homeless people are ‘winners’ in the NSW Budget, according to Sydney Morning Herald
Today is Budget Day for those who live in New South Wales, and if you happen to be living rough, then it’s no doubt been a glorious, winning day for you – according to the Sydney Morning Herald, who have broken down the winners and losers of today’s state budget.
Under the canny title ‘All the winners and losers in the NSW budget’, the SMH (which is probably an acronym you’ll type into the comments section) has pinpointed those ‘winners’ in today’s budget.
Alongside ‘people who visit the doctor’ and ‘essential workers’ in the Herald’s list of winners is ‘homeless people’, who are no doubt feeling blessed as they read the report in today’s paper/tonight’s blanket.
Here’s the breakdown, according to the paper.
“Amid rising mortgage costs and increasing rents, homelessness has jumped. The budget will give out $527.6 million to provide emergency housing and homelessness support services. Of that, $260 million will be for safe shelters with crisis accommodation and provide help to move to more permanent housing. Another $250 million will go to those at risk of homelessness.”
Yay! That’s a lucky break for those currently perched on the pre-real-estate-ladder, which is the politically correct way of referring to these people.
Let’s also take a second to study the infographic chosen by the Herald for ‘homeless people’.
Assuming the green figure is meant to represent ‘homeless people’ and the grey is a non-defined member of society (possibly one of the NSW Budget ‘losers’ like a firefighter, an MP, or ‘new car buyers’), it seemingly represents one of the following:
a) A homeless person being lifted up, metaphorically or in actuality, by the caring member of society
b) A homeless person being pushed down, metaphorically or in actuality, by the caring member of society.
c) A homeless person being given some money, although the reality of this caring member of society carrying IRL cash makes for an unlikely scenario.
d) Two Rydell High students in the throes of the opening steps of the following dance move.
Dr. Mumbo’s advice to the homeless is to ride this good luck out and avoid buying a new car, lest you find yourself suddenly in the ‘loser’ category. It’s a slippery slope.
