Hunger Games takes 2012’s biggest opening day at box office

The Hunger Games has taken $1.75m on opening night at the Australian box office according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.

The much anticipated film opened across 471 screens for a screen average of $3715 to make it the biggest opening day for 2012.

Adapted from the novels of Suzanne Collins this is the first film in a trilogy, and is being compared to the Twilight series for its romance/sci-fi youth targeting.

In Australia, the film by produced Lionsgate, is distributed by Roadshow Films.
