Ideas man wanted, those lacking a penis need not apply
Recruitment company Interactive Inc has posted a job on Mumbrella. They’re looking for an art director at a digital agency. Here’s an extract from the ad:
“Essentially, we are looking for an ‘ideas man’ with the ability to sketch their ideas quickly into Scamps and Headlines. “
A reader point out to Dr Mumbo: “Seriously people, it’s 2011 and us ladies have been working for quite a while now…”
According to Interactive Inc’s website: “The candidates we deal with are put in the best position to find the perfect environment and culture for them. We are committed to securing the right fit for each individual.”
Such poor form…!
And I love that the copy hasn’t been changed, even after it’s been brought to light by Dr Mumbo! That takes balls…

@Lisa do you still wear the big shoulder pad suits? Give the PC stuff a break. Surely in the advertising industry, some latitude is given for normal forms of speech.
I am not a part of this industry (working on the outskirts in Technology) but an Ideas Man — is an historical phrase — a lot like calling all actors “actors” instead of actresses and actors or Chairman instead of Chairperson which sounds dumb.
Any company who employs someone just on their gender alone these days, rather than on merit, gets exactly what they deserve….
Has anyone considered the possibility that this was done deliberately to drum up some controversy to lift the profile of the job on offer; and free publicity for Interactive Inc.
Nah! That would never be the motive, surely
