The Inbetweeners 2 in at number one as Dr Who screenings top $600k at the cinema
British comedy The Inbetweeners 2 cracked the number one spot in the Australian weekend box office rankings beating out Guardians of the Galaxy which had topped the weekend box office for the last two weeks.
In its opening weekend the film, based on the UK comedy series about four high school students which was filmed on the Gold Coast, took in $3.155m across 308 screens, beating out the Disney’s film Galaxy which took $2.733m across 480 screens, taking its total Australian box office to $19.093m.
The newest episode of Dr Who, which premiered yesterday on the ABC, was also available to fans to watch on the big screen, with the debut episode of Peter Capaldi ‘Deep Breath’ taking in $629,219 across 146 screens.
So an episode of Doctor Who that people could have streamed on iview for free or watched on tv made more money than Save Your Legs! , The Rocket, Satelite Boy or These Final Hours.
These Final Hours is a great film. Saw it twice. Sadly it will do well on illegal downloads, the Aussie public just don’t care.
