Inside Out 2 highest grossing Pixar film in Australian history
This weekend saw Inside Out 2 officially become the biggest Disney/Pixar title of all time in Australia.
In its sixth weekend at the cinema, Inside Out 2 has now taken $50.67 million in Australia alone.
This past weekend saw the Pixar film surpass Shrek 2’s $50.4 million to become the second-highest grossing animated film ever, behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s $51.8 million – a record it looks likely to break in the coming weeks.
Inside Out 2 is one of only 19 titles in history to cross the $50 million mark in Australia, and is already the 18th highest-grossing film of all time in the country.
Globally, it is the second top-grossing animated film of all time, behind Frozen 2’s US$1.451bn in ticket sales.
The Walt Disney Company ANZ senior vice president and managing director, Kylie Watson-Wheeler, said of the film’s runaway success: “We’re thrilled this Pixar animation favourite is topping charts locally and the world over.
“We love that this film strikes a powerful chord with moviegoers and is bringing the big screen to life.
“It’s been nine years since audiences first went on an emotional journey inside Riley’s head, and that’s a key reason why this film so deeply resonates with a broad audience and makes perfect viewing with family and friends.”

What an absolute irrelevant dumb PR piece.
OK, so Inside Out 2 has just managed to nudge Shrek 2 (ever heard of that one … I thought so) by $227k. But they are comparing a 2024 movie to a 2004 film based on the take.
What’s the bet that the tickets these days are at least twice as much as they were 20 years ago. That is a meaningless comparison. Probably also beats shit movies such as Gone With The Wind. Get serious will you!
