Absolute GOLD! love it! watch Coles kill is in the sales war! im down down!
Well, it is a commitment to a theme. As horrible as the previous ‘Down Down’ may have been, you can’t deny it got stuck in your head and must have worked. However, don’t think this one will be around as long.
It’s just a little bit derivative of the Good Guys campaign.
I didn’t think retail advertising could sink any lower, its a mash up of the AAMI advert and Downtown
I LOVE the new ad & the girl singing intrigues me immensely – who is she?
It’s bloody great
I saw this ad for the first time last night and was cringing but my mother in law, non-prompted said to me that she loved it.
Ps – The chick in this ad reminds me of the Pixma mum, who is the greatest character I’ve seen on television for a long time.
It disturbs me that people like this ad.
@ Pete…. seriously??? You gotta be kidding…
Well first time caller I watched it with my wife, and we both cringed. And my wife, unprompted, asked why they would do that.
We hit an new low in supermarket advertising
its so bad, its good
@Ben – probably because it apparently appeals to my mother in law. Not saying I loved it. Just that it apparently appealed to some audiences. http://todaysgrocerybuyer.torc.....age0000011
Realistically, it’s an advert for a supermarket, what ‘artistic direction’ is everyone expecting them to take?
Saw on Friday night during the footy… I quite liked the linkage of footy fans waving the red logo’s after a goal, which then lead to the Ad… but they lost me from there…
In all honesty it’s so bad they lost my business…
make it stop! make it stop!
Finally Coles advertising is as bad as Coles stores
@Mel, I agree. Does no one else cringe at the scenes of men pumping these giant red hands up and down with a finger pointing at their crotches? I want to laugh at the absurdity of it but I’m mortified at the same time.
The commercial is HORRIFIC.
I started a bit of a #StopColes rant on Twitter which most people seemed to agree with so today I took the next step and I’ve written to Coles about it…
http://neilsgardiner.tumblr.co.....-stopcoles
This ad is one of the worst adverts I have ever seen. If there is a bit of noise going on near the TV when this ad is on it sounds like a terrible noisy mash up of horrible sounds.
Great ad campaign….for Woolworths as that’s where I’ll be shopping from now on
Petula Clark fans rise up and take a dump at your local Coles store, thats what they are doing to Petula.
Puke!
when is the karaoke version out? i can’t wait to hear that one in the stores!
This is awful! I don’t know how an expesive ad can look so cheap and nasty.
Coles is obviously stupid while all you guys are the cool and clever kids, right?
This ad will work it’s socks off among it’s target audience (and more)
My bet is that it will change perceptions. Shoppers will no longer prefer woolies on the basis of price alone. They will get this very clearly and memorably articulated message
This is what advertising is for, right ?
@Sven – you hit the nail on the head.
“Shoppers will no longer prefer woolies on the basis of price alone. They will get this very clearly and memorably articulated message”
This commercial gave me one more reason to prefer Woolies
Agreed Sven !
Is it just me that cringes when you see comments that are overly “pro-advert” posted by people without links?
this advert is pretty shit. and the entire tagline EMPHASISES choosing coles over woolies because of price differential. change perceptions? hah, dont make me laugh.
Of all the thousands of staff that Coles must have, surely they could have found a couple who could actually sing?
typical reaction in so many ways.
the ad is cheesy, yes, but I think deliberately.
Australia wakes up to grant denyer, and goes to bed with rafters and australia’s got talent.
I think half the comments on here are from people who think australian children should be forced to consume art shows on sbs 3.
If we didn’t, as a nation, embrace creative work like this, then channel 7 would be bankrupt, the age would sell more than the herald sun, and village roadshow would be replaced by a touring dali exhibition.
Whilst the advertising industry continues to value obscure creativity at the expense of business results, they will continue to see their product devalued by clients like coles who, appear to me, to be doing a terrific job and stealing massive share from those creative geniuses at M&C.
The ad is simple, with a clear message that is a break from the norms of their category. And it will work.
The point here is that the industry doesn’t need to love something for it to work. Where some people believe it is. Bollock. It’s the role of the industry to create work that works, and this is nicely executed, great production values and screams VALUE and ‘genuine people’.
Get over yourselves fellas. This is strong advertising. Even though I prefer a drop of quo to petula. But hey.
Oh and no link because I’m doing this from work!
Yeah this ad would be so much better if they cast models and it was set in a desert where the models happen upon on a waterfall and immediately decide to use a unilever brand of body wash, then go home but decide avoid a date with a really attractive, well groomed man in favour of chocolate whist their adorable dunce of a male roomate confuses tampons for chew toys and pads as weapons.
Yeah that would be waaaaaaaaaay better than this ad.
As usual, The Client is right. That would actuall make for a far better ad.
Hey Wollies, never interrupt your enemy when they’re making a mistake.
Consumer insight: Our customers are bogans.
Strategy: Let’s treat them one.
*like one
Only Ted could inspire 20,000 people to like a page to hate your ad.

@ The Client
Despite your sarcastic undertones the ad you’ve described would in fact be waaaaaayyy better than the Coles one. In fact anything would.
This is utter rubbish. Coles should be ashamed.
News just in, Mumbrella feedback forces Coles to change strategy! AND I LOVE IT https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Pq_ChabZ6Ys#at=22
