It took a year to realise media might not be for me
Newcomers can struggle to adjust to the fast-paced world of media agencies. Here Marco Del Castillo talks about the challenges he has faced in his first year at MEC.
I’m days away from rounding out my rookie season in this industry and it has been a heck of a ride. A naïve student in the field of psychology and marketing, I have found myself in the thick of a fast-paced world filled with interesting people, a ridiculous amount of jargon and litres of beer, wine and champagne to rival the downpour of the 2011 QLD floods.
I have gained a plethora of knowledge in just 12 months, though there are five standout traits that I have identified as essential to a career in media.
Welcome to the workforce Marco… this isnt just the media industry, this is all industry …. and life for the next 40 years!
Love it mate well done
At first I thought this was a typo in point 5:
….. “it is our job as media professionals to stay ahead of the curb …..”
And then, I thought, you know, along with so many colleagues having been kicked to the kerb, maybe it stands. We do need to stay ahead of the curb!
What an eloquent young man. Keep this up and you are sure to have a stella career!
6: Keep it brief – or no-one will read it.
Nice article mate and congrats on your 1st year in the industry!
p.s – LinkedIn allows members to publish posts directly into their LinkedIn profile now. Might be worth posting for some extra amplification 🙂
Well said mate – pretty much sums it up
Marco, well written summary of your 1 year experience with Media. Agree with Kae, LinkedIn now gives you the opportunity to publish. Things are changing very quickly, the 60 months is far too optimistic!
Nice work Marco! Thoroughly enjoyed your post.
Love it when Gen Y’s take the time to impart their knowledge on us.
