‘It’s not about revenge’, Sir Martin Sorrell’s S4 Capital APAC boss lays out plans for Australia and the region
In a candid discussion with Mumbrella Asia’s Dean Carroll, new S4 Capital Asia-Pacific CEO Michel de Rijk sets out what is in store from Sir Martin Sorrell’s new venture – and it is not ‘revenge’ on his former company WPP.

S4 Capital’s Michel de Rijk is looking to establish content, media planning and buying offerings in Australia, China, Singapore, Australia, India & Japan over the next year
In terms of acquisitions, what type of companies will you be looking to buy and why?
“S4 Capital is looking to acquire companies in the content, digital media planning and buying and first party data space. This can be global or regional operating businesses.”
Narrator: It was about revenge
“It is a flat organisation and we all work closely together as a management team.”
Translation:
“Sir Martin, God Bless Him, has his finger on the pulse of everything (This is not to be interpreted as him sticking his nose in everywhere), and is why the Great Man works until 11 pm, and is worth many hundreds of millions of dollars.”
SMS is the best operator to work for, because unlike many CEOs he’s got his finger on the pulse, is decisive and is responsive to problems. You make a decision ten times faster with him than any other CEO in the market.
