James Parkinson to leave Group M Australia; promotion for Danny Bass
Group M trading supremo James Parkinson – the man with a two billion dollar media spend – is to move to the UK. Digital boss Danny Bass will be promoted to chief investment and knowledge officer.
The role is one of the biggest media jobs in Australia – negotiating the combined spend across WPP’s Group M agencies Mediacom, Mindshare, MEC and Maxus. Recma estimates that the combined spend of the agencies across traditional and digital media amounts to around $1.9bn.
The only agency grouping that comes close to Group M is Aegis, through Mitchells, Carat, MPG and Vizeum which amounts to around $1.5bn in client spend.

That’s a lot of IP leaving GroupM in the last 6 months. Jenner, Gaines, Greet, Parkinson. I am sure others in the industry will see that as an opportunity…
Hi Bob,
Not entirely leaving – two of those have been promoted within the group to global roles, another elsewhere within the WPP family. Only Gaines left altogether.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
It makes sense to move a digital person into an investment role. can’t see them replacing the Chief Digital role … one could argue such a role is now redundant given the central role digital plays for clients and more importantly, agency revenue. No longer a ‘specialisation’
You are right Tim. And good on them for such a positive approach to talent management. But there is still a significant amount of change at GroupM Australia in a short space of time….
Congrats to the Northern Monkey. That boy done good.
Good luck Parky, you’ll be missed mate
Well done Danny Boy…the week is getting better and better
Is this an end to our showbiz career Danny?
Congrats…
Congrats on the new role Danny, well deserved.
