Fairfax digital boss Jane Huxley departs
Jane Huxley, the well regarded CEO and Publisher of Fairfax Digital is to leave the company, the SMH is reporting.
According to the SMH’s Julian Lee, Huxley’s role has disappeared in a restructuring and she will leave the company at the end of the month.
Instead there will be a “chief product officer” spanning both print and digital.
A statement from Fairfax said:
Jane Huxley has decided to leave Fairfax. She will leave her current position at the end of May but will continue to work on a number of strategic projects for the Metro Media and Marketplaces divisions until June 30.
Metro Media CEO, Jack Matthews, today announced the creation of a new role, Chief Product Officer, which will span product development across all Metro Media platforms.
Matthews said: “Of course Jane would be completely capable of assuming this role and would unquestionably do an outstanding job. Unfortunately, Jane has decided that rather than specialising in a Product role, she would prefer to continue on the path of General Management. For this reason, she has decided to leave Fairfax and seek this path elsewhere. Jane has made an enormous contribution to Fairfax and we wish her nothing but the best in her exciting future.”
Wow
Christ, which old fossil will they ressurect or bring back now?
Loss, but she has v strong leadership team. NEWS envious.
Jane is one of the best. She’ll move on to other gigs where she inspires another world.
Structure makes sense, Matthews finally moving it along now. She will leave some of the best people in digital media in her management team. Matthews needs to get moving on editorial now.
Says it all really. Fairfax is a goner.
Surely no resurrections!! SURELY
Typical boys club!
Huge loss to Fairfax as she’s one smart cookie. I’m sure she’ll do well wherever her next move takes her. Best of luck Jane
Saw her speak at an event. Amazing. Amazing. Her team might be good but they’ll be bloody shattered.
She’s a class act and will be sorely missed.
Having worked with some in her team I agree they are bloody strong with a couple of standouts. Let’s hope Greg and level 5 have learnt their lessons in keeping talent. Jane, i will always remember your white jeans when you presented to us thus year. Good luck!
The best public speaker in the business.
Future studies in economics and publishing will use it as an example of how do turn a $3 billion media empire into a runny pile of poo.
Chief Product Officer? God help us.
