Jason Hodges dropped from Better Homes and Gardens after 15 years

What were you thinking channel 7, dropping Jason from the show. Well it’s obvious you weren’t thinking at all. You’ve lost my support from Better Homes and Garden.

I’m very disappointed that you’ve “let Jason Hodges go”.
As far as I’m concerned I mainly watch it for his segment of the show. He makes it fun and everything he does he makes it sound easy to understand. I’ve lived his presentations and sense of humour. I think the programmers have it very wrong to have “let him go”.
Maybe you should rethink your decision.

I doubt Our family will be watching better homes and gardens if Jason isn’t in the show as he was one of the reasons We watched the show for his down to earth attitude and the ways he made a job easier .plus not ‘over the top costs of doing a garden for average people ‘ I am sure the other guy is good as I have watched him in the other but he always had a very good budget which most people can’t afford ,also his recycling skills are often lacking .
A bad decision in the long run channel 7 .

What total disappointment to see Jason leave the programme after so long. He was great, is great. Maybe the people up stairs should rethink and look again. There are others who pretend to work, but don’t. Jason was not afraid to dirty his hands. So from me it is a sad good bye Janson. Cheerio. BHG.

I can’t believe that seven network has let Jason go from the better homes and gardens show. I have always enjoyed his segments each week and now I may be watching the living room on the win network instead. You have let go a very knowledgeable and important member of the team.

Might have to rethink whether I will continue to watch BHG…..have been watching for years and I am not sure I like the direction they’re heading.

Sadly I have the same feelings as the other writers. Jason is a down to earth true blue aussie that explained things easy with a sense of humour. Charlie doesn’t come close to him. Im feeling the same as when you dumped Rob Palmer, this has done it for me.

Jason was the only reason I watched Better Homes and Gardens. His segments were always interesting, unlike Graham Ross who all he seems to do is stick things in pots… keep Jason and retire Graham Ross please.

Loved Jason’s segments. So down to earth, so friendly and he spoke to the man in the street. No snobbery and it was obvious he was a real family man. I’m sick of all the cooking on this show and now this has just put the nail in the coffin for me. Good bye BH&G

I have loved BHG from when Noni Hazelhurst was the host and have enjoyed the show so much but like everyone else i am very disappointed you are dropping Jason Hodges. I love his segments. I’m another viewer totally disappointed by the dismissal of Jason.
He’s talented, funny and definitely a great segment of the show.
I usually fast forward Ross’s segment, he seems to have a lovely time wondering about gardens but I don’t learn anything from him.
I will tune in next year and see what the new show is like.
Dropping Jason diminishes my enthusiasm about it greatly.
If Jason turns up in a rival show I’ll definitely be changing channel!

I am sure Jason with this expertise and great personality will go on to bigger and better things. Thanks for all the years of entertainment and inspiration.

Like most comments above, I agree that BHG will NOT be the same show without him. He’s funny, charming, natural and real.
Some office boffin that doesn’t know what they’re doing. Probably straight out of uni with no idea of what the viewers want.
This is a lesson in how to destroy a good show.

I’m extremely disappointed that Jason has been sacked. After Rob Palmer was let go I only watched the show every so often. I don’t think I’ll bother anymore. Jason brought that larrikin feel to the show which made you feel like he was part of your family.

Watching B H & G and saw this announcement. I had to log on to my computer to find out why? I thought it must be for personal reasons but then I read this story and I’m shocked. I think it is a terrible decision and he will be a huge loss to the program. Personally I find him relatable, fun and he seems like an all round nice person AND I really enjoy his presentations. Gardening Australia on the ABC is on at the same time and runs rings around Better homes and gardens. I recommend making the switch if you are fair dinkum about gardening.

Have felt Graeme has been taking over Jason’s domain for sometime. You have just lost another viewer. A decision the station will regret.

I have never commented on a television show before but feel compelled to do so. Jason Hodges presents as a knowledgeable, affable down to earth person, as do all the presenters on this show. Channel 7, you have dumped him at your peril. You have gravely underestimated the respect this fellow has garnered in an industry stuffed with overblown egos. I am sure his colleagues will miss him but I’m sure his talent will be snapped up elsewhere. Your loss, 7.

From day one I have watched Jason on BHG his personality is obvious Why on earth do you sack we as viewers enjoy I was disappointed when you sacked Rob Palmer. Except for Jo Griggs there is only a couple of personalities are worthy of watching. I have flicked between BHG and The Living Room due to Jason leaving now I have no reason to switch.Totally TLR now. Helen

WHY OH WHY would you let Jason go. My husband and I, (who are in our 40’s) love watching BHG. We love our garden and get plenty of tips from Jason. It is one of the easy shows to watch because there is so much other crap on TV. Channel 7, what is wrong with you!! You sack 800 Words and now Jason. Maybe some of us don’t want to watch crappy reality TV, constant sex and murder, especially with a 7 year old in our house. I read you also want to improve the show with technology and motoring rubbish. If the show content changes, good luck keeping the show, we won’t be watching and I’m sure many will follow. Just watched the last show with Jason and his farewell. To see the awkwardness in the farewell, makes me wonder just what the producers put Jason through. Hope you producers are happy…I think there might be many viewers looking elsewhere for entertainment.

You have made a very big mistake getting rid of Jason! I have been watching better homes and gardens since the eighties, and Jason is most definitely a favourite. You have made a very big mistake and have lost a long time watcher!

I am very disappointed. Why don’t they let Graham Ross go? Who wants to know about lush european gardens when we are in the middle of a drought? And it upsets me that he keeps promoting his own garden tours company, the show should not be free advertising for his company. I will not be watching next year.

Obviously chasing ratings because of the popularity of selling houses Australia Charlie is ok on that show but Jason really fits the gig on better homes and gardens, a very stupid decision one which will back fire on them they just lost me.

I can’t believe you would remove one of your most loyal, likeable, knowledgeable and highly regarded members of The Better Homes & Gardens Team. I happened to run into Jason one day on one of my many trips to my local Cessnock Bunnings store and you wouldn’t find a nicer more and laid back Aussie bloke than Jason. I know my wife and I will definitely miss seeing Jase and Danny every Friday night and I have to say, the Producers are making a huge mistake by letting them go. I agree with the multitudes. Apart from Jo, Jason was the best thing on BHG. Way too many cooking segments, we want more gardening. Bringing in motoring and technology segments will spell the end of the show.

Kudos to ABC for continuing with Gardening Australia. When you are on a good thing, stick to it! After 30 years, still going strong. BHG should take a leaf out of their book….first Rob and now Jason….suicide, 2 of the most likeable characters, gone. Bunnings was my favourite store….ah well, Mitre 10 is reasonably closeby, I will not only not watch BHG again, but I will hit the sponsor in the pocket, to show my dissatisfaction!

I always felt that he was the glue that held the show together with his charismatic, friendly, great ideas and projects that were able to be done by you and me. I think BHG forgets the age of people watching this show, young ones don’t watch whatever the ratings people think, so getting rid of Jason will not help the ratings in fact it will probably hurt the ratings, us middle age/oldies who have been along with the ride with BHG and that included Rob Palmer and Jason, part of the family that we love, silly decision I’d say. Goodbye Better Homes and Gardens.I have watched this show since Noni and John were on it.I have watched it for a very long time.Jason was the only one i liked on the show.I could`nt believe it when they kicked Rob off, now Jason.How about getting rid of the ones that do nothing.I can think of one right now.As i said Goodbye Better Homes and Gardens. Not happy!!!!!!!!!

Like the other viewers, I am extremely disappointed with the decision to let Jason go. It was a great program because of the team. Jason offers so much to this team and unfortunately it wont be the same without him.

Who are these people replacing Jason ?l have been watching bh&g since it was first on .l have watched channel seven give us great home and garden improvement shows over the years and also fantastic Australian drama only to see them either axed or shredded to pieces and not worth watching.The channel has back stabbed a lot of their great actors and presenters over the years,especially the last three decades.I remember Noni,Maeve and Rob just to name a few.I used to buy the magazine every month but the content was becoming well above my budget or repetitive. I watched for the presenters and l still felt loyal to the show.l think Jason being axed is the final straw.Look out Graham,Jo,Karen and Ed.

I am extremely disappointed that channel 7 had taken this decision to axe Jason from the BHG show team. He was the highlight fit me with his love of all things lawns. What a delightful person and very down to earth he is. It is very disappointing that this arbitrary decision has cast a shadow of gloom over a high point in my week, and Friday nights will never be the same.
As with your ‘loyalty’ to the people who bring the show into our homes, the people who make the show ‘work’, my loyalty to your show will become a mirror image of this ‘loyalty’, lack thereof!!! I missed the carpenter you ‘used’ to have who was a clever and fun guy, to be replaced by someone who is good and a winner of another of ch7 shows, but he is not the same person as the one you axed.
They’re is such a thing as viewer loyalty and by axing the carpenter, and now dear Jason, it saddens me to see the family feel of this show being tossed out for what????

Just watched the farewell of Jason. What an injustice to put someone through that. Whoever thought that doing something like that is ok needs their head read. All the best for the future Jason. The show is called Better Homes & Gardens. So where does 2020 ‘motoring content’ fit – it absolutely doesnt. Not convinced ‘health & fitness’ has anything to offer but could be a small segment if its able to be done in the home or garden without promoting companies or gym equipment etc

The current format is working well. Why let go someone with so much talent? As so often happens, executives are out of touch with the grass roots and make unpopular decisions. The ratings will determine if the correct decision was made. I for one think they could have let one of the others go before Jason.

Something that a lot of lifestyle shows are missing, there is no arguing and bitchiness on this show just lots of FUN and good ideas. Jadon is the best presenter on the show. Down to earth and believable not like the over the top cooking segments on the show.
Put Graham out to pasture..well past his use by date and cut Fast Ed’s segments by half, then you may have the bare bones of a reasonable show.

If sacking Jason wasn’t bad enough, he then had to sit thru the fake Christmas party/2019 season retrospective and then the awkward and clearly painful segment with Joanna Griggs announcing his departure.
Just one bad decision after another by Channel 7. And there still doesn’t seem to be any logical reason for letting him go.

So disappointed you dropped Jason he and Danny were mainly why we watched BHG. He made the show down to earth with his blokey ways and wit and brought a sense of continuity and relaxation to the show. BHG is a far cry from the rubbish reality TV on offer but I have a feeling it is going down that road. You will lose many viewers if so as the age group that watches BHG is an older age group that is not interested in sensational reality TV.

Rob Palmer and jason Hodges are the best and most entertaining in BHG. Management has no idea what the public wants. All the cooking bits are really boring. I don’t buy the magazine because it’s like a cookbook.

I like Adam but still think “Rob was robbed!” And now Jason too?! Who’s next?! Why can’t they just leave things alone!!

I am totally disgusted with the management of channel 7 after again dropping a popular presenter without much warning. Rob Palmer was another one and they didn’t even let Him know personally. They don’t seem to have any decency or manners or concerns about the people they use. AND WHAT ABOUT MONICA VOS our local presenter, heard about the axing of her program in the morning and she was gone in the evening!
As far as I am concerned there are other presenters who could be replaced who get too much airing.

What a shocking decision to axe Jason Hodge. He is the heart and soul of the show and it is disgraceful that the heads of 7 doing this. He and Danny always presented magnificent and inspirational segments and he is a colourful character who fitted in well with the other members of the team.

This will have an adverse effect on the show and the moral of the other members who will be waiting for a tap on their shoulder.

The strange part about this is that Better Homes and Gardens is a well watch show compared to the amount of “crap” they serve up to us each week. Have a look at the number of shocking shows they have bought and screened on 7 over the years. They should get the sack for putting these on.

I think BHG has lost the plot. It used to be a great show a few years ago. They replaced the Carpenter Rob Palmer, he was a great attribute. Now Jason Hodges has been replaced. Both these guys are down to earth and knowledgeable.
It used to about renovations, now it’s about flash homes out of the reach of the average Joe Blow who are the mainstay audience.

I watched the final episode for the year and it was a Christmas Party. It looked like Jason had no idea he was about to be dropped from the show. Even his dog looked distressed. To be sacked at Christmas is an employees worst nightmare.
Do not worry Jason, you will not be forgotten by viewers. Shame on you BHG. I reckon other Garden shows should be looking to hire you Jason. Come on Garden Gurus or Gardening Australia.

We are devastated to think that you are axing Jason Hodges from Better Homes and Gardens – I think there are two other older men who could have been axed before Jason as he brings lots of light and laughter into the program. Get rid on the girl cook as well would be a good idea and leave those who seem to enjoy what they are doing such as Ed and Jason =, the real people who MAKE this program work. We have been getting quite bored with the program over the last few months so a new format might be good but not with segments about buying houses or such as there is enough of that already on programs all over the channels. We as viewers have had to sit through Graeme doing a travel show showing us cherry blossoms & azaleas in Japan ( an obvious promotion of his tours) & painting pots ??‍♀️Then Karen Martini who never, ever looks comfortable on tv. The only people who make this show interesting & especially informative at a suburban backyard level are the absolutely wonderful Jason, followed by Adam & Tara. My advice to those two would be ‘watch out’ . If you’re too good at what you do you’ll be out on your ear as well. I can only hope some other station will realise what an incredible asset Jason would be & he sticks it right up channel 7.

I was very unimpressed when the builder chap was brought in to to the detriment of the show 2 years ago. He makes a lot of mistakes on the now few occasions I watch the programme. I now watch only to see Jason and Graham Ross, I feel now I will not be watching it at all.
We were in the habit of watching every week and recording when we were unable to do so. after the last axing so rudely we watched periodically now obviously not at all.

The wife and I used to make sure BHG was on every Friday night, but it’s been a let down over the last year or so. You think we like those junky rubbish creations, its not stuff you’d make to complement your home. More to suit school kids! Not nearly enough gardening improvements and way too much cooking segments. Do we really need two cooks. Now you let the garden section go and you don’t think all of US viewers mind. You’ve got it wrong BHG!! We watch it for the team members we like and you got rid of the best one. What fouls you are. The others on the show should stand by and threaten strike action to show their loyalty to Jason and the viewers. OR

I am very disappointed that I renewed my subscription to the magazine before finding out Jason was out of the show next year. Also I’m not interested in motoring or health related formats as there are other shows that cover that. Will they now have to change the name of the show and magazine. What have the producers of the show done? Obviously you are not considering what the viewer’s want. Typical of what is currently happening in the TV industry. Then you wonder why the ratings have slumped! As you can see from the other comments, Jason is one of the most popular characters on the show and he is the one we enjoy watching. He delivers his segment in a true, down to earth Aussie way and in which the viewers can relate to. You can bring in all the new blood you want, but people want Jason. I hope he gets snapped up by another channel and then you will know who viewers will follow.

What is wrong with the management of this channel? Why would you get rid of one of the most popular characters of the show? It seems typical of the way the TV stations are going these days. Bringing in new blood and then they wonder why the ratings for the show have slumped! Gardening is a very hard segment to keep viewers entertained, but Jason certainly kept us entertained and we wanted to watch more of him. He is down to earth, a true Aussie showing his viewers handy tips and how to enjoy gardening. He even made mowing lawns interesting! I hope he gets snapped up by another channel as I know there are many viewers who would certainly change channels to watch him. Oh well, time to change channels on a Friday night.

I was shocked to hear that Jason has been axed from BHG. I liked watching his segments as he has a larrakin sense of humour, I love Danni and he explained how to get similar results of his projects to the laymen, i.e. me. I had enough confidence to lay my own paving because Jason made it simple and easy to do. I don’t think the show will be the same, without him. I think Channel 7 have made a big mistake.

I’ve been watching Better Homes & Gardens for as long as I can remember. It’s my favourite show and I look forward to every Friday – it signals the weekend for me and has become a tradition in our home. Jason is a true blue Aussie bloke. No airs and graces, what you see is what you get, funny, entertaining and down to earth. We love him and his dog who we met as a pup on the show. Our family would like to let Channel 7 know that axing Jason is a big mistake. We will no longer watch the program nor will I buy the magazine which I have bought faithfully every month for over 10 years.

Jason is the ray of sunshine on BHG. He is such a personable soul, who teach us affordable, doable landscaping and gardening tricks.
He is a pleasure to watch. Pity that the producers didnt do their homework to see what the public want to watch before they made their decision to axe the most popular presenter. I think that is a very silly move given that BHG is competing with Gardening Aust and The Living Room. As with the hundreds of others who are just as disappointed as I am, I will not be watching BHG as I have done for many many years as my favourite Friday night show.

Jason’s segment was one of the highlights of the show, a real personality and informative. Charlie, does not compare. My wife and I cannot understand. Jason, we are sure you will be scooped up by another network. We will keep watching the show to see how motoring goes on a home and garden show. I hope it is not the beginning of the end for what has been a good program.

Worst decision you’ve ever made, since you wiped Robbie. You cannot treat ppl like this who have given their all and have made your show popular…..I will NOT be watching another episode! Shame.

Like so many of the previous comment, I totally agree. Jason made gardening fun and easy.
And the new format with , new technology, health and fitness and motoring content. Really? what do those have to do with decorating, renovating and gardening. I don’t even watch House of Wellness or Top Gear. You showed no loyalties to Jason after 15 years, so I not be watching BHG next year.

Another stupid stupid decision by producers that get things wrong. You guys are insane. Look at the rediculous decision the ABC made when axing Spicks and Specs a few years ago only to come back with their tail berween their legs only to have to re-introduce it due to overwhelming viewer responses. His gardening segments are always very interesting , presented with lots of knowledge and humour ! Why on earth would Channel 7 sack him ? Very bad decision , who ever came up with this poor idea . I am very saddened that Jason has been let go. He is brilliant at what he does and has a mega following. I also don’t understand why you would want to put motoring into a gardening show. Why fix what’s not broken. Just don’t understand you people or where you got the idea that this would be better. Get it right and put Jason back in and forget your stupid ideas for motoring.

I find it very sneaky to axe Jason Hodges from the show, He is a true professional. His segments are very entertaining and informative. He will be missed. But, then again, they axed poor Robbie Palmer. Why do they change a wonderful format, and presenters that us regular folks can relate too. I was shocked to be hearing The farewell of Jason Hodge along with his beloved dog Dani…. why I ask he has be apart of the show for 15 years, he has so much knowledge of gardening ideas as well as his other gardening friend Graham.Jason is a genuine man who brings entertainment to the viewers who watch the show each week. Channel Seven bring him back, it was clearly that he was upset along with team who work on the Better Homes and Gardens Show.

Channel Seven I think you need to review your decision and bring Jason Hodge back along with his beloved dog Danni.Read through all comments the viewers wrote . I think you will find there will be less people watching BHG or better still if you have to bring Charlie in have Jason Hodge be apart of the gardening along side Charlie….working together.

Why would they let him go? What’s the really reason? I’m concerned it’s something image related because it cannot certainly be about his personality or his genuineness. So sad to see that Jason has been dumped from BH&G. I have been watching show from inception and have enjoyed and also tried out a lot of what Jason has brought to the show. We will miss his humor as well as Danny. I think Graeme should be leaving as his segment has become boring and I feel it is only beneficial to his business.

I’m an British living in Australia on a working visa, one of the first shows on TV I watched was BH&G’s. I loved it for its originality and Aussie presenenters, Jason was your next door guy, with his sweet dog, he had a way of capturing your attention, he certainly appealed to a wide audience. Unfortunately Charlie Albone is stiff & rigid ( my opinion & I accept not everyone will agree ) having seen him on selling houses Australia, you hardly see him getting his hands dirty, he is to upmarketfo this TV show. I won’t stop watching but will record and just fast forward his section. I don’t know what market research you have done, but who ever made this decision needs firing!

Charlie has the personality of a brick. BHG you have made a big mistake. Jason and Danni will be greatly missed and BHG will go down in the ratings.

BHG you have lost the star of the show. Our family fast forward to Jason’s segment and re-watch to try and use his practical, achievable and affordable projects. Jason do not lose your smile, sence of humour and down to ‘earth’ presentation style. You have contributed to our garden in so many ways and will continue to do so by the skills you have shared with us over so many years. Be proud and don’t look back. Good times ahead mate. What a terrible decision, Jason is very watchable, humorous and interesting why you have to promote reality tv people not those who have real qualifications I don’t understand. The people who watch this show aren’t interested in reality tv people.

I have enjoyed watching your show over the years learnt a lot done some projects from the show. BUT i will no longer watch yr show as i think it was a really BAD decision on yr part to get rid of Jason he was great at his trade always fun and he always made u feel like he was talkin just to u and that u could go out and do what he showed u. To the executives who made this decision, shame on you. Never before have I seen such an extensive feed of comments in support of a brilliant yet down to earth Australian presenter! I am appalled at the treatment of Jason by Chanel 7. To watch him on the last program of the year, a shattered man, disposed of in such a humiliating manner was very upsetting. This is not okay. People should not be treated and disposed of like this.

What are the programmers thinking by dumping Jason? He is by far the most watchable on BH&G. He has a rapport I think with the majority of viewers. With his personality he will probably be snapped up by some other channel. I’ll be switching back to Gardening Australia now.

Very disappointed to hear of this decision. Jason is fantastic! We have watched BHG since we migrated to Australia 10 years ago from Wales and absolutely loved his segment. We love gardening and he was a real help with gardening tips and affordable solutions for our education of Australian conditions.
Loved his sense of humour and down to earth attitude.
We will be turning BHG off after this sadly as some of the other segments are very poor and we only kept watching for Jason’s segments. Poor form Channel 7.

Again we see corporate decisions out of sink with the viewers. We all could relate to Jason because he is like the guy everyone knows and helps out…the guy next door, a dad, a brother, a great mate and generally a nice guy. Either he has got off side with one of the corporate decision makers or they are not seeing or understanding of just how popular he is with us the viewers.

I am saddened to read that Jason will no longer be part of this team. Whilst I have enjoyed quite a few segments over the years, I mostly watched the show for the landscaping.

In my humble opinion, Jason was the star of the show. I like Charlie Allbone, but he’ll never replace Jason. And another thing, why is there so much cooking? Good luck Jason Hodges…such a down to earth lovely man.

My favourite on the team. Sad to see Jason go. Always engaging, funny and informative.Most of all he was truely authentic with real “everyday people” appeal. Maybe he lacked the required look management were looking for. Let’s face it he didn’t have the just come from the gym look and the smile you could see from space, and yes Dr Harry and Graham I am referring to you guys!

Like everyone else, I too am in shock re the decision to let go Jason Hodges. I always look forward to his segment and have learned so much. His easy going manner and sense of humour will be sadly missed and if you are going to put motoring in as one of the segments well sadly I also won’t be tuning in. I will miss Fast Ed and Graham’s segments but without Jase, not worth tuning in. It seems Ch 7 have made a very big error in judgement and obviously don’t know what their viewers liked about the format. Sad, sad, sad.
