The founder of PR and events agency Write Away is to leave the business 25 years after she founded it.
Jody Hammond is to exit the company on 30 November, following a take over of the business by Elizabeth Marchant and Adam Benson.
Hammond said: “The success of Write Away is due to its professional, hard-working team. Over many years, we’ve fostered a creative, positive culture and attracted many consultants who have a can-do attitude. This has translated into terrific outcomes for clients and staff – from satisfying work and delivering great results to respect and loyalty.”
I don’t understand this – did Elizabeth Marchant and Adam Benson have equal shares and pair up to push Jody out? Because her word & language, and theirs, sound like the sort of cautious statement you get after exactly such a scenario.
“assessing creative opportunities that are aligned with my experience and interests” – why wouldn’t her own agency be exactly that?
“We wish Jody all the very best for the next phase in her professional and personal life” – another of those pro-forma boilerplate lines from the victor to the vanquished!
I look forward to finding out the real story in a few months.
As it is now it reads like a work of fiction.
More like having absolute control for 25 years. Then the inconvenience of having to share decision making – after the financial reward of selling your business.
It’s a boringly normal scenario.
Jody, in a PR world of incompetence you and your team have been a beacon of outstanding professionalism for a long time.
Jody is a great PR practitioner who has mentored many young people over the years since she established WriteAway. The fact she held on to several very demanding clients for so long is testament to her ability and commitment to achieving results for them. Once you sell your business as part of your plan to exit the industry things aren’t the same because you no longer have control. I’m sure that in a few months Jody will be back giving top advice to a new batch of clients.
The above suspicious comments are amusing – I think you write for the pure joy of stirring comment! I’ve worked for a client of Writeaway and we were well-informed of Jody’s exit plan – we’ve known for a long time. After selling the business to Elizabeth and Adam, it was always her intention to exit once the new, united business was stable. Jody has many other itches to scratch outside PR agency land.
