Joel Creasey launching national noon show on Nova

Nova’s Joel Creasey will be flying solo from April, leaving the successful Ricki-Lee, Tim and Joel show to host a national daily noon show on the network.

The Joel Creasey Show will broadcast live at lunchtime on weekdays from April.

This is part of the lineup switcheroo first reported by Mumbrella on Friday morning and expanded upon on that evening’s emergency Mumbrellacast.

Current national drive team Ricki-Lee Coulter and Tim Blackwell (sans Creasey) will move to Sydney breakfast, while the Sydney breakfast team Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald, Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli, and Kate Ritchie will host national drive.

Ricki-Lee and Tim will retain their national footprint, with a 6pm hour-long best-of program airing across the Nova network each weeknight. These changes will take place from next Monday February 9.

Creasey revealed his plans during the drive show on Friday afternoon, quashing earlier rumours that he was moving back to Perth, which stemmed from his recent guest host role on Nova’s Perth breakfast show.

“The family Whatsapp was a-buzz”, the Perth native joked of media reports he will move home.

“It’s been an honour to be filling in, but I am just a guest fill in on that [Perth breakfast] show for the next little while … You’ll be able to hear the Joel Creasey Show nationally at lunchtimes. And yeah, I guess the boss has figured the world is already on fire. Let’s just pour more gasoline onto it and see what chaos he can cause.”

In a separate announcement, Nova Network’s group programming director, Brendan Taylor, credited Creasey as being “instrumental to the success of Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel, which has consistently held the number one spot in its timeslot”.

Taylor said Creasey is “an immensely talented broadcaster and comedian, and this is a fantastic opportunity to showcase his talents in an entirely new part of the day. We’re excited to add another world class talent to our new weekday line-up.”

Nova now has a substantial lineup of national programming stretching from noon into the early evening, with Creasy at noon, the Chrissie Swan Show from 2pm-4pm, Fitzy, Wippa and Kate from 4-6pm, and the truncated Ricki-Lee and Tim from 6pm-7pm.

Nova CEO Peter Charlton said the success of the Chrissie Swan Show proves the network’s “ability to create new appointments-to-listen in the workday.”

Last year the network dumped Ben Harvey, Liam Stapleton, and Belle Jackson from the ‘late drive’ 6pm-8pm slot, and lost Kent ‘Smallzy’ Small, who hosted Smallzy Surgery from 8pm to 10pm, to ARN.
