John Wick can’t displace Fury and Gone Girl at top of box office

Fury held on to the top of the weekend box office for a second week  with the Brad Pitt movie taking in $1.897m across 334 screens taking its total box office takings in Australia to nearly $5.5m.

Ben Affleck film Gone Girl took in $1.736m across 375 screens, taking its total Aussie takings to $21.802m.

In at third place was the newly released John Wick which stars Keanu Reaves as an ex-hitman who comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him. It made $1.092m in its opening weekend.

Romance The Best of Me didn’t do quite as well in its opening weekend, pulling in $748,703 across 22 screens. Since opening on Thursday the film has made $931,698.

Warner Brothers comedy drama This is Where I Leave You starring Jason Bateman and Tina Fey sank to fifth place in its second weekend, grabbing $534,877 across 235 screens. The film has made $1.784m at the local box office.

British comedy Pride, which took just $54,739 on 94 screens last week, enjoyed a stronger second weekend as it took in $521,580 0n 130 screens, beating comedy Tammy which grabbed $365,625 across 207 screens, taking its total Aussie box office to $2.629m.
