Junior Masterchef opens with 2.2m
Junior Masterchef stormed to an opening night debut of an average 2.2m capital city viewers, according to preliminary overnight TV ratings.
It also hit a peak of 2.61m for Ten, according to figures from OzTam.
The show anhilated Seven’s The X Factor, which rated 1.074m, 11th for the night.
What a nightmare Masterchef has become… Am I the only one who thinks this kiddie version should be aired at 4.30pm for afterschool entertainment?

Alison, you don’t have to like the content to know that 4:30pm slot is the most ridiculous slot for this show. The ratings speak for themselves!
For the first time the show didnt make me wanna rush out and cook something…instead i felt compelled to go buy a spinning lightsaber, Good on ya Hasbro 😉
Alison F – I am with you, however I think we are def in the minority. I liked Masterchef a lot. But the ads for this one turn me off so I watch ABC!
I’ve got it sitting on IQ ready to be watched, I’m sure it will be quite entertaining on a basic level! Especially being able ot fast forward the ad breaks which I’m sure along with the promo lead up will be a bit of overkill. *shrugs* but hey, that’s TV!

Just wondering why you haven’t reported anything about Nine’s new digital channel GEM (Mediaweek and AdNews uncharacteristically reported the news before Mumbrella)
Also, that Fairfax Digital ‘Half Page Takeover’ ad on ure site is SOOOO annoying!

I’m surprised Offspring is still in the top 10. I think that show is not worth the hype – poor scripting and a lot of overacting.
Initially liked it. Thought some of the kids genuinely nice. By the end of the show felt like I’d been duped into watching Johnny Young’s Young Talent Time for Cooks. If Jamie Redfern comes back as a guest judge I’m outta here!!

Fair question. News of GEM came out in dribs and drabs – Mediaweek were probably onto it first (albeit with something of a red herring around it being crime focused) but they were certainly the ones to be mentioning the name first, I think.
Then there was virtual confirmation in the AFR this morning. But with most of it already in the public domain via Mediaweek, my view was that it wasnt worth re-reporting that although Adnews took a diferent view.
And late this afternoon, Nine finally did put out a release, which we’ve published as an FYI. https://staging.mumbrella.com.au/nines-reveals-new-digital-channel-gem-33155
But compared to the impact of Ten’s and Seven’s announcements, Nine blew a bit of an opportunity to get more coverage of this.
And ta for the feedback on the Fairfax ad. It’s our first expandable ad in that position, and I’ll be watching the feedback carefully (yours is the first).

I agree Tim, that ad was extremely annoying! It was fine the first time and maybe the second but something about the positioning meant I kept accidently activating it. Can you frequency cap it?
