Junk food and alcohol ads scrapped by Queensland government
Queensland’s state government has announced it will ban junk food and alcohol ads at government-owned outdoor sites in an effort to combat childhood obesity.
The restrictions for out-of-home ads featuring high fat, salt and sugar products, or alcohol, will be rolled out in consultation with the advertising industry, according to health minister Steven Miles.

Health minister Steven Miles said the ban will improve Queenslanders’ health

Then remembers year on year declining viewer rates and weeps softly while scrolling past a Netflix ad on his/her Facebook feed, while in the next room the family are watching YouTube videos on their Android tablets.

So not concerned about the QLD kids watching their XXXX team?
No….. they’re influenced by billboards…..
QLD Govt might also want to know that media channels work together, so QLD kids are actually influenced by an omni channel approach, so it’d be better to ban such adds across the most effective combination of media channels which is usually TV + OOH + Digital.
(rather than picking out one channel)
Just saying…
A great initiative by the Government. It really takes some courage to take such decisions where already big brands are involved. We hope that they’ll not stop here and will further try to minimize the consumption of junk food & alcohol.
We Think Health minister Steven Miles has done the right thing, as it does affect the young children and someone has to take a step against it. Good work!
My company traditionally does very nicely out of these ads (we supply wardrobe to film & TV), but I’m very pleased to see someone take this initiative. Bring it on. Last year we introduced a code of corporate ethics- the first to go were the gambling ads, a tidy source of income but morally unsound & wholly untenable.
Yay! More room for gambling billboards!
