Jurassic World passes $30m at Australian box office while Minions opens strongly

Dinosaurs and kids movies dominated the weekend box office with Jurassic World cracking the $30m in total local takings in just under two weeks.

The revival of the dinosaur series pulled in $9.87m across 604 screens over the weekend, easily trumping its closest rival kids movie Minions which made $5.874m in its opening weekend across 487 screens.

Fellow children’s movie Disney Pixar’s Inside Out, which stars the vocal talents of Amy Poehler and Mindy Kaling, making $3.583m across 468 screens.
