Kath & Kim film tops box office on opening weekend

Australian film Kath & Kimderella has opened in number one at the box office over the weekend – the first time a local production has done so since Baz Luhrmann’s Australia four years ago.

The film, based on classic sitcom Kath & Kim, took $1.999m, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia. Opening across 285 screens, fro Roadshow Films, it took an impressive $7,013 screen average.

Australia opened with $6.373m in late November 2008, according to the MPDAA.
