Kiis FM defends as ‘standard practice’ Kyle and Jackie O asking listeners to call pre-recorded show
The Australian Radio Network (ARN) has defended as “standard practice” Kiis FM breakfast presenters Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson asking listeners to call in to play competitions and take part in phone-ins for yesterday’s pre-recorded show.
From this morning the pair have been broadcasting live from Dubai as part of a cross-promotion with the local tourism board, but flew out to the emirate on Sunday and pre-recorded yesterday’s show in advance.
The first segment of yesterday’s show asked listeners to phone in to guess “what’s in Jackie’s mouth”, and then for other segments including a phone in with a psychic and the regular pop quiz.
I hear this all the time on Fitzy and Wippa in the afternoon and Hamish and Andy and they are recorded. Unfortunately I have to agree this time with Kyle. Oh how sad.
SCANDAL!!!!! I cant believe this is such an issue. It’s the magic of radio people. Let me give you some other insider secrets…
1. The Logies are not live – they have a 60 minute delay
2. All the Voice auditions are filmed on the same day and later edited down and played over numerous nights.
3. The Biggest Loser finale is not live. Also, sometimes there are 2 or more week’s between weekly weigh ins
4. Big Brother live evictions are not live.
5. A Current Affair pre-records many of it’s ‘live’ crosses and interviews
6. Channel 10 films many of its interstate bulletins from Sydney!
Can anyone else reveal insider secrets of the media industry. There must be heaps.
Kyle and Jackie o seem vile.
I think you’re missing the point Drew.
Asking callers to ring to enter competitions that already have been recorded is scandalous.
Ask how weekend competitions are done when the entire weekend is pre recorded.
It happens all the time on radio, and its disgusting. I once rang a radio competition a few years ago run by a community station in Sydney. The prize was for the 8th caller, on an alternative music show. First time I rang, I was told I was caller 12, second time caller 9, third time caller 11 – it was then I questioned the girl pointing out that my previous call was caller 9. She then claimed it was an error. I hung up and called again, and she then told me on the phone I was caller 10. I told her I didn’t believe her and she hung up on me when she heard my voice. A few minutes later, she read out the winner on the radio, and I found out the person who won was a friend of hers by searching the name on Facebook. These competitions are rigged.
Maybe someone should check the terms and conditions of their competitions as there is a chance they breached them which could have them in serious trouble if found guilty
I was on the kyle and jackie o show the other day and called up live and went to air live with a 30 second delay. the reason there is pre recorded now is because they are in dubai??
Who cares? It’s entertainment isn’t it?
As a radio insider, let me tell you, there are bigger issues that FM Music radio has to contend with – for example, shit content. If KnJ are the best Australian FM has to offer, then Australian FM is in serious trouble.
No wonder younger demographic listeners are deserting this 19th century medium.
Dear Marconi – Thanks for the memories.
Meanwhile – you know those reporters coming to you “live from the scene”? Sorry – they’re calling in from their office using a hybrid. Seen it dozens of times.
And don’t get me started on “live” traffic updates – ever noticed how anything less than a 6 hour nuclear meltdown in the middle lane of the F3/M1, doesn’t exist when you actually drive past through the very intersection where Joe Helicopter on the radio is telling you it’s chaos? And equally, the 20 minute log-jam you’re sitting in is never mentioned? No wonder we are flicking FM Music radio to Channel Off and plugging into the i-Pod dock, where we can listen to the same song 5 times a day – all on our own!!! Gosh program directors, maybe it’s not so hard after all … we call it revenge of the audience!
