Kyle and Jackie O Show to end

Now there’s a bright start to the day!

It’s about time Jackie O gave TV a go……oh hang on…..I’ll get my coat.

I’m sure this post is going to attract plenty of “good riddance” like vitriol. But to the duo’s credit they lasted 10 years in the very tough world of Sydney radio, stayed on top for much of it and – the definer of success – left on their own terms. Regardless of what you thought of their program (and its numerous indiscretions) you can’t begrudge their success. Too, I’m guessing both of them are into their 40s and probably time to do something new (bit too old for yoof radio?). Best of luck to them and well done on their successes (for which I very much doubt they’ll be remembered.)

Be interesting to see the effect on revenue. Would have to think ratings will drop next year however advertisers 2day lost may return and revenue will increase.

Agree with Wayne. It’s very easy to jump on the moral high horse and look down on the pair (especially Kyle) but at the end of the day, they are two of FM radios most successful personalities and regardless of your opinion of them, you have to recognise and acknowledge that.

It Says a lot about the Australian publics taste when a personality like Kyle Sandilands who has a reputation for being arrogant, rude, abusive and generally in poor taste, has a consistently top rating radio show. It seems like it is perfectly acceptable to abuse people he disagrees with like the journo he called a “fat slag”, as long as he entertains people whilst they are sitting in morning traffic. Go figure.

A lot of people like to attack the dj’s but in reality they’re just the front-men for a dedicated team of writers, producers and ad/pr agencies that write their content for them. All they needed to do was be identifiable or vilified in one way or another.

Writers and producers stay the same they’ll just find another couple of actors to fill their shoes – instead of someone genuinely funny.

My money’s on a has-been or well established face / duo replacing them rather than someone new given the chunk of ad expenditure that show is responsible for.

Kyle and Jackie O were the king and queen of bogan Sydney, and contributed massively to the dumbing down and coarsening of the market.
I’m thrilled they are now history, and I’m crossing my fingers that they aren’t headed for another network. Wouldn’t it be amazing if someone with wit, talent and intelligence (and at least a year 11 education) were able to shine in their place.

I admit Wayne that it’s best in most situations to wish people well but quite frankly I can and do begrudge them their success. They’re show in my humble opinion was built on cruelty and bullying. Part of their success came form appealing to the worst of our nature. Strap a teenager to a lie detector, tell a young woman they can’t see their long lost relative, make fun of the gay newsreader. This is not entirely their fault. The station let them get away with it and encouraged it. They are just as complicit. Remember Lowie? Another presenter broke into his house live on air and he ended up leaving the network. I hope they disappear off the face of the earth like one of Jackie O’s television projects.

I can’t see them gone for long. Predict Sandilands will pop-up on a rival network soon – his ego is too big to simply allow himself to vanish. In the mean time I’m going to enjoy the absence of his infernal wordhole polluting the airwaves.

So sad – they’ve been a part of my morning for a long time! The only radio show on FM without fake laughter, over told stories etc.. unlike presenters like Fifi and Jules – I can’t listen to with their fake / over the top laugh and exaggerated stories – why do presenters feel they have to over act everything? I’d much rather listen to two relaxed presenters having a chat.

Are 702 still looking for Adam Spencer’s replacement?

A credit to Australian Radio. A delightful goofy pair filling the airwaves with good humoured mirth and merriment for all. How lost will Radio be without that little rascal Kyle. A humble man, his full girth full of humility. Very very sad day.

if our population is seeking out bottom dwelling filth, then the next Kyle and Jackie O are just a few weeks away.

They sa,y we get the government we deserve (oh science help us), but even more so, we get the “celebs” we deserve.

Kyle and Jackie arent the problem… the hundreds of thousands of “listeners” are.

Still… good riddance.

Yes I was one of the campaign organisers. Feeling very happy today. Shame that it came down to a question of $ for SCA and not ethics but the result is the same, Kyle is too much of a liability, contract not resigned, a win for decency.

No great surprise. if they wanted to leave on top, this was their last chance. Their time had some. A face-saving way to solve a problem for SC Austereo.

Those praising their longevity as though shallowness is an achievement show how really really bad radio has become. Pandering to the lowest common denominator is easy but should not be applauded.

Have never listened to their radio show, but in every other public setting involving Kyle Sandilands, I’ve always had a good and unexpected laugh…. ‘Education snobs’ Why refer to his educational level…..Who cares! The man has a sharp wit, and he’s not afraid to use it! It’s called COMEDY and it’s PRECIOUS! What else IS there?? He makes mistakes (like you and I) is called out, publicly, (like you and I?) and is genuinely quick to own his shit…. Rather than indulge in puffed up superiority, we might do well to congratulate him for ten years of service to the funny bone of his regular listeners…. Oh and also his courage to self disclose despite the spite which no doubt he knew would follow…. Good luck Kyle and Jackie O for your future ventures.man

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Lots of things happening across the major stations, not sure what was up with the ending of the Highway Patrol on MMM though?

Can you see the train of endemic bullying, here. Kate gives a comment and some nobody called “Paul” tries to shoot her down for having the courage of her convictions, for coming out with an opinion that differs from his. Can he do it courteously and respectfully. Hell no! The Pauls, the Kyles, the Alans…..they walk amongst us. Bullies!

Sadly Paul there aint no living to be made standing up for what you believe in. Be offensive, engage in bullying behaviour, make sexists and defamatory comments and ah ‘telling it like it is’ and well hey you could make a bit of money but no, no monetary gains for me.

Will be sorely missed- what a great period of radio!
