BigPond, ABC announce partnerships with TV manufacturers

LG Electronics has partnered with Telstra to offer BigPond Movies through their web-enabled TV range, and the ABC’s iView online catchup service will now be available on Sony’s new Bravia models.

The deals represent another step towards a more robust IPTV offering for Australia, as manufacturers and broadcasters explore these partnerships as viable business models for online content distribution beyond computers, directly through television sets and other entertainment devices.

The new LG TV sets will be equipped with embedded access to the video-on-demand rental service, as well as online content such from YouTube and other IP services in the near future.

“We look forward to expanding our relationship in the coming months to make the most of BigPond TV’s emerging business through LG devices,” said LG Australia managing director William Cho.
