Liverpool match drives TV viewers towards 7Mate
Sports fans again showed willingness to find coverage on the secondary free to air channels on Wednesday night with 7Mate pulling one of its biggest audience shares since launch for the Melbourne Victory vs Liverpool FC soccer game.
7Mate had an audience of 8.4 per cent while the game had a metro audience of 588,000, according to the overnight ratings from OzTAM. In Melbourne the game rated 262,000 – making it the city’s ninth most watched programme of the day.
The strong result matches the big results for Nine’s Gem during the first two Ashes cricket tests.
Meanwhile, Nine’s The Block was the only evening entertainment show to rate more than 1m, pulling in 1.359m.
Incredible effort by what was basically a Melbourne youth team. They passed the ball around with ease. Shows how far the game is coming in this country.
Hopefully these numbers from the Soccer and Ashes will encourage the networks to start using their HD Channel for premium content.
I find it interesting the huge push for HD television sets over the last few years yet without a Foxtel HD package there is very little premium broadcast HD content available.
The big networks need to stop the 80s sitcom re-runs and realise it is worth investing in premium HD content
@ Football fan. So if football has come so Far why did a no Rooney and only 15 minutes of RVP Man Utd stick 5 past the A League All Stars??
I don’t see what the big deal is regarding primary or secondary channels. I guess the only difference is that people have to consciously change to the secondary channel at the time the sport is about to begin. But how is that any different to any other show you want to watch?
@Justin Case Obviously you don’t know much about teh game. The All Stars had pretty much none of the so-called All Stars playing.
Plus how can 11 guys expect to do well who have never played together before?
What does Rooney’s non-appearance and Van Persie’s game time have to with progression of football in Australia?
